Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is putting his Bloomfield Hills, Michigan home up for sale, spurred by alarming privacy and security concerns. It’s a drastic measure, but considering the circumstances, an understandable one.
The 7,800-square-foot house, listed for $4.5 million, didn’t have a chance to linger on the market for long – a deal was pending within 24 hours, according to Jeremy Reisman from Pride Of Detroit. Campbell and his family decided to sell after his address was leaked following a loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 17 of the 2023 season. The reveal led to an influx of unwanted attention, with numerous pranksters showing up at his home early in the morning.
“It’s just that people figured out where we lived when we lost,” Campbell said to Crain’s Detroit Business, reported by AP News via KVIA. The continuous harassment after losses, including from the NFC Championship Game loss to the San Francisco 49ers, ultimately led to the family filing police reports, as noted by Fox 2 Detroit.
Bloomfield Township Police emphasized that “harassment of any kind will not be tolerated” and expressed hopes that fans would respect the privacy of all individuals and their families, according to a KVIA report. The statement underscores the severity of the situation and the measures taken to ensure safety for Campbell and his loved ones.
The house itself has an interesting history, having been built in 2013 for Igor Larionov, a Hockey Hall of Fame member who played for the Detroit Red Wings. The new buyers, who are reportedly huge Lions fans, will hopefully bring better luck and respect for the privacy of the property, as noted by ESPN’s Julia Stumbaugh.
It’s a sad commentary on the state of fame and privacy today that a beloved coach like Dan Campbell, who has led the Lions back to relevance with one of the best records in the NFL after starting his tenure in 2021 with a 3-13-1 season, cannot enjoy the tranquility of his own home without fear of harassment. The leak and subsequent invasions of privacy have forced the Campbells to find a new sanctuary. Here’s hoping their next home offers the peace and normalcy they deserve.
